The Hong Islands lie further out than the four islands off Ao Nang, and that is the case for a speedboat: the crossing is quicker, so more of the day goes to the islands. The tour is listed at six hours and includes lunch.
The reason to go is the lagoon on Koh Hong, a stretch of green water almost closed in by the island's walls of rock. Boats and kayaks can enter it, and at low tide it turns shallow, so what you see depends on the day. The operator also mentions swimming, time in the sun, and the viewpoint or kayaking: read the booking page to see which of the two is part of the price.
There is a longtail version of this day with kayaking in its title. Choose this one for the faster boat; choose the longtail if you want the kayak for certain and do not mind a slower crossing. Speed has its cost too: if fast crossings on open water upset your stomach, this is the wrong boat.
Stop 1 of 2
The pool enclosed by the island's cliffs, entered by boat or kayak; shallow at low tide.
Stop 2 of 2
A metal staircase of about 400 steps, with no shade, to a view all around. The operator offers it as an alternative to kayaking.
01
The speedboat makes the longer crossing to the Hong Islands quicker. The day is listed at six hours, though the operator's description also says seven.
02
Koh Hong's enclosed lagoon is the reason to make this trip.
03
Lunch is part of the tour, as its title says.
The speedboat is faster; the day is listed at six hours, though its description also says seven. The longtail version is listed at seven and puts kayaking in its title. If paddling matters to you, the longtail tour is the surer choice; if less time on the water does, this one.
Not always. At low tide the lagoon is shallow, and the tide on the day decides how you see it.
The operator writes 'the viewpoint or kayaking', which reads as one or the other. Check the booking page, and ask the operator if it matters to you.
The listing does not say. The Hong Islands belong to Than Bok Khorani National Park, whose fee is usually paid in cash on the day: check the booking page before you pay.
