Krabi's airport and piers, compared

The airport and the two main piers side by side: where each one is, which boats leave from it, and what to know before you go.

Three places decide how you arrive and how you leave for the islands. Krabi International Airport, east of Krabi Town, serves the province. Boats leave from two main piers: Klong Jilad, in Krabi Town, and Nopparat Thara, the main pier for ferries and speedboats on the Ao Nang side.

Which pier depends on where you are going, and when. From Klong Jilad, ferries go to Phi Phi and Phuket, and to Koh Lanta from November to April only. From Nopparat Thara, boats go to Phi Phi, Phuket and Koh Yao, and to Lanta mostly from November to April. Timetables change every season, so we do not print them: check the current one before you plan a day around it. The table below compares them on what changes a plan, then each place has its own page.

Travel info · Krabi

Travel info

The season and the sea decide more of a Krabi trip than anything else. When to come, which boats run, what the national parks close and charge, then the airport, the visa, money, health and the rules.

Things to do · Phi Phi

Phi Phi Islands

Phi Phi is two islands: Phi Phi Leh, with Maya Bay and its rules, seen on a day from Krabi, and Phi Phi Don, the island you can sleep on. What each one is, what disappoints, and how to fit them in.

Where to stay · Ao Nang

Ao Nang

The base where the boats leave from the beach. Which part of town to sleep in, what the evenings sound like, and who would be happier somewhere else.

Where to stay · Krabi Town

Krabi Town

A town on a river, not a beach resort. Who it suits as a base, which part of it to sleep in, and how every day out begins.

Common questions

Which pier do boats to Phi Phi leave from?

Both. Klong Jilad is the pier in Krabi Town; Nopparat Thara is the one for Ao Nang, and some boats from there also stop at Railay East.

Can I reach Koh Lanta by boat all year?

No. The boats from Klong Jilad run from November to April only, and most of those from Ao Nang do too. The rest of the year you go by road and cross on the vehicle ferry, which runs all year.

Is there a bus from the airport to Ao Nang?

Yes, a regular bus runs through the day. Fares and times change, so check them when you land.
