Phi Phi from Krabi by speedboat or catamaran, by day or into the evening, and who each tour suits.
Phi Phi is the island day most people have heard of before they reach Krabi, and it is a different day from the islands off Ao Nang. The islands are further out, across open water, so every tour goes by speedboat or catamaran, and none of them is short.
The tours split into two kinds. Some keep to Phi Phi and its best-known stops; others add four more islands, and some of those stay out for a sunset or plankton after dark. Maya Bay, on Koh Phi Phi Leh, is on most itineraries and has rules of its own: no swimming at any time, and no landing from 1 August to 30 September.

No. Swimming has not been allowed since the bay reopened in 2022. Boats no longer enter the bay: they moor at Loh Samah, on the other side of the island, and you walk across to the beach on a boardwalk.
Yes. From 1 August to 30 September the bay is closed to visitors, and tours still go to Phi Phi but do not land at the bay. Any day can also be cancelled for weather, at any time of year.
The four islands are close to Ao Nang and make a shorter, calmer day, often by longtail. Phi Phi is further out, so the day is longer and the crossing rougher; it is the one to choose if Maya Bay and the cliffs of Phi Phi Leh are what you came for.
