Temples and caves · Ao Luek, north of Krabi Town

Tham Lot

A pair of tunnel caves in the Ao Luek mangroves that you pass through by boat or kayak, at low tide only.

Access

By boat only

Time to allow

Part of a boat or kayak trip from Bor Tor

Best time

At low tide, which the trip has to be timed around

Why go

For the passage itself: you go through the rock by boat or kayak, from the mangrove channels of Ao Luek.

What you will find

Tham Lot is two caves, a northern and a southern one, which you pass through by boat or by kayak rather than visit on foot. The passage is only possible at low tide.

Getting there

From the Bor Tor pier, inside Than Bok Khorani National Park, by longtail or by kayak through the mangrove. Sources describe guided kayak trips from Bor Tor rather than kayaks for hire on the spot: check before you go.

Before you go

The tide decides everything here: outside low tide you cannot get through. Do not assume the same timing at Ao Thalane, further south, where sources point to a different stage of the tide.

Than Bok Khorani National Park charges a park fee. Sources disagree on whether the park ticket also covers the boat trip to the caves, so check what your booking includes.

Common questions

When can you go through Tham Lot?

At low tide only. A guided trip from Bor Tor is timed around the tide; if you go independently, check the tide table first.

Do I pay a national park fee for Tham Lot?

Than Bok Khorani National Park charges a fee, but sources disagree on whether it covers the trip to the caves. Check with your operator or at the pier.
