Most people who say they went to Phi Phi spent a few hours on boats around it. Phi Phi Don is the island where the ferries arrive, where the hotels are, and where you can stay once the day trips have gone home.
The ferries land at Ton Sai pier, in the island's main village, and the trail to the island's viewpoints starts from there.
The island belongs to the Hat Noppharat Thara-Mu Ko Phi Phi national park, like its neighbour Phi Phi Leh, where Maya Bay is.
By ferry or speedboat from the pier at Klong Jilad, near Krabi Town, or from Nopparat Thara pier at Ao Nang. Boats run all year, with fewer departures in the low season and cancellations when the sea is rough.
Day tours from Krabi also cross to the Phi Phi islands, but most spend their time on the water and at Phi Phi Leh rather than on Phi Phi Don.
The small local fee collected at Ton Sai pier on arrival is not the national park fee: the two are separate charges. Carry cash.
In the low season, check on the day that your boat back is running: departures are fewer and can be cancelled when the sea is rough.

By ferry or speedboat from Klong Jilad pier near Krabi Town, or from Nopparat Thara pier at Ao Nang. Boats run all year, less often in the low season.
A small local fee is collected at Ton Sai pier, separate from the national park fee. Carry cash.
