The experience

Best for
A day of island hopping south of Koh Lanta, by longtail, when you are staying on the island
Not for you if
You are staying in Ao Nang or Krabi Town, or you want a fast boat and short crossings

Koh Lanta has its own island day, and it is not the four islands off Ao Nang. This one heads south from Lanta to four other islands, by longtail, and it is meant for people staying on Lanta: from Ao Nang the island is about three hours away by road and ferry.

The operator names Koh Mook and the Emerald Cave, and a Thai lunch on a beach. It does not name the other islands or describe the visit to the cave. Guiding is in English or Thai, and pickup is available.

A longtail is the slow, traditional boat, low on the water: it suits a day like this, but the crossings take longer than by speedboat. Before you book, ask which four islands are on the route and whether all are open on your date: in 2026, Thai press reported Koh Ngai closed from 11 June because of Portuguese man o' war, with no reopening date announced.

The route

  1. Stop 1 of 3

Koh Mook and the Emerald Cave

The stop the operator puts first; it names the cave without describing the visit.

  2. Stop 2 of 3

Three more islands south of Lanta

The operator gives four islands in all without naming the others; ask at booking.

  3. Stop 3 of 3

    Lunch on a beach

A Thai lunch on the beach, as the operator describes it.

Common questions

Can I do this from Ao Nang?

Not sensibly. The tour starts from Koh Lanta, which is about three hours from Ao Nang by road and ferry. From Ao Nang, the island days are the four islands, Hong and Phi Phi.

Which four islands are on the route?

The operator names Koh Mook and the Emerald Cave and leaves the other three unnamed. Ask at booking, and check that all of them are open on your date.

Longtail or speedboat?

This tour is by longtail: slower and closer to the water than a speedboat, with longer crossings. The four-island tour to Koh Kradan we list does not say which boat it uses; ask if it matters to you.
