Islands · Between Krabi and Koh Lanta

Koh Jum (Koh Pu)

One island with two names, where you stay rather than visit: no tours, and the boat from the mainland is the way in.

Access

By boat only

Time to allow

At least a night

Best time

Out of the southwest monsoon, when the sea is calmer

Why go

Koh Jum is for people who want to stay on an island, not tick one off. No tour on this site goes there, and the way in is the ordinary one: by road to a pier, then a longtail. If you are after a day of snorkelling stops, this is not the island for it.

What you will find

One island, two names: Koh Jum for the south and Koh Pu, or Koh Phu, for the more mountainous north. OpenStreetMap labels the whole island Ko Pu, so look for both names on a map.

Getting there

Year round, by songthaew or taxi to the pier at Laem Kruat on the mainland, then by longtail across to the island. In high season, some boats on the Krabi-Koh Lanta route also stop off the island: check with the operator, as this is not a year-round service.

Before you go

The longtails run to a timetable, and missing the last one leaves you arranging a boat of your own. Check the times at Laem Kruat before you set off, and allow for delays on the road.

In the southwest monsoon, from about mid-May, the sea can make the crossing rough: ask locally before you go.

Common questions

Are Koh Jum and Koh Pu the same island?

Yes. Koh Jum is the name of the southern part and Koh Pu of the more mountainous north; it is one island.

How do I get to Koh Jum?

By road to Laem Kruat, then by longtail to the island. This works all year; in high season some Krabi-Koh Lanta boats also stop off the island.
